Meanwhile down in Florida...
I have been chipping away at my list of commissions this year and I am so thankful to be occupied and painting full time! I finally made it a priority to leave space in my schedule to create new work along side my commissions. New work is where I grow as an artist and it's so very fulfilling. Many of you have emailed about new goodies and when they will be released. I have several different series which will make their way to the website by way of Instagram towards the end of April. Thank you as always for all the love and support!
I am really excited to finally be able to offer y'all easy professional framing for all my work!
I've partnered with the folks over at Simply Framed to offer high quality custom framing made by hand here in the USA. For decades, custom framing has been difficult and expensive but Simply Framed is changing that. They offer a curated selection of gallery-worthy frames at prices that are 50% less than retail frame shops. The best part? You can complete the entire process from home. I ship your artwork directly to them and they go to work. After it's framed up all pretty they ship it straight to you. Easy as pie!
Please allow an additional 2-3 weeks for your delivery. For more information, go to www.SimplyFramed.com
Be sure and visit Excentricities Jupiter on Monday, Feb 9 for their Lee Loves Local event. I'll be there from 11-3 with new work. Come by and say hi!
Palm Beach...It conjures up so many vivid pictures in the mind. There's just no where else like it. It's one of those unusual, rare, larger than life locales that simply can not be replicated. I have been lucky enough to spend a good bit of time on the island in the last 8 years - time that has inspired me profoundly. The painting below came to be after a once in a lifetime commission for a client on Palm Beach.
When I start a commission I generally need and prefer vague guidelines like size, color direction and samples of my work the client is drawn to. This client was different. They had some specific requests and I think we accomplished all 6 ft by 9 ft of them! They wanted some recognizable beach elements with some meaningful places highly abstracted so that my clients hold the secret meaning of nearly each and every brush stroke in the painting. It's almost like a treasure map that only they can decode. Right up my alley! The piece was to be quintessential Palm Beach pastels with a LIlly Pulitzer feel. This was unlike anything I have ever done before but it was fun to reach back to my whimsical illustrative days and combine it with my love of abstract expressionism.
I adore the very unique final piece that hangs proudly steps from the ocean. I painted the piece below in a similar fashion with places that have been inspiring to me during my time here. So... I hold the key to this piece and can define abstracted strokes and marks as specific places on Palm Beach Island. Perhaps my art may come with a legend in the future and my love of making treasure maps will live on...
We can't believe Summer 2014 is almost over! It was a blast and everyone in our home made memories we will not soon forget. When school let out we loaded up and headed to the 30A area where we set up my painting studio in the loft of our old cottage. It was a dreamy and perfectly imperfect spot for me to drip, drop, spill and splatter. We worked and played hard! The FL panhandle area has been a retreat for 5 generations of my family and always provides me with an endless amount of inspiration every time I am there.
With school about to start, we are back at the Tidewater Cottage and gearing up for a great year. We are looking ahead with eyes open and ears turned to see what the Lord will do with us this year.
I love it! It seems there are a whole flock of flamingo fanatics out there. I'm glad to know I'm not alone. So many of you have requested them recently that I'm painting more as we speak. You can expect them sometime soon. There may also be some exciting flamingo related news coming along that you won't want to miss.
